Long long ago, there was a cowherd. His name was Niulang. He was handsome but very poor. All he had was a cow. One day, he walked by a lake with his cow and met a beautiful lady. The lady was the Jade Emperor’s daughter from the heaven. Because she’s good at spinning and weaving, people called her Zhinv. She and Niulang fell in love with each other and got married soon. Later they had a son and daughter and they lived a happy life together. But when the Jade Emperor knew what his daughter did, he got so angry that he brought Zhinv back to heaven. And he only allowed Niulang and Zhinv to meet each other once a year on the seventh night of the seventh month on opposite sides of the Milky Way. 

This is how Qixi came to be. It is a traditional Chinese Valentine's Day.
