让更多女孩接受教育

It’s time for students to go back to school. But in some parts of the world, there are kids who don't get a chance to go back to school. A lot of them are girls. Maybe the parents think the girls will get married and leave the family, so they are unlikely to give any money back to Mom and Dad. Or maybe the parents just want their daughters home to do housework.

In Zimbabwe,a couple of decades ago, aid groups were putting up posters and running TV ads encouraging parents to send their daughters to school.

When people asked parents about the girls who weren't in school, they heard a very different explanation. They said, “Girls are not at school because we are poor. If we have money, we will send our girls to school.”

In Zimbabwe, secondary school costs money. So parents decide to send a son to school because he seems to have better job chance than an educated girl would have.

It was up to the government’s idea. Give families the money! Since then, government has made it possible for more than 1.4 million children to attend primary and secondary school. They're mainly girls.
