Lin waits in a noisy restaurant outside the university. And she has taught in the university for more than 10 years.

"I'm sorry I am very busy, and I even haven't had a chance to eat," she says. She is 38.She's from the country's south, and although she has lived in Beijing for 11 years. Her father has never visited her."Among their four children, I'm the only one who's not married. My father says I don't have a family so he has no reason to come here," she adds. 

Lin grew up in a very traditional family. “My mother is always worrying about me being single. One day she called me and said she would visit for the summer to help me find a husband.My mother came once. But it was a disaster.” 

Lin's mother had read an article about Beijing's “marriage markets”.Parents of single children would gather at the city's Zhongshan Park.They want to find a good boy for their children .She sometimes comes with her mother to the market twice a week.She stands silently beside her for more than an hour."I felt I couldn’t refuse, but it made me feel everything bad. I felt like I’m a loser and I just stand there to sell myself."
