Raeena was 14 years old when she was married to a man who was 21 years old. She moved into her husband’s family but she didn’t know what a marriage means or what she expected to do. “I was worried about my daughter," her mother said. "It was not her age to be married, but I have no way because other girls marry early as well.”
Raeena's story isn't special. Each year, hundreds of thousands of girls across the country are married before they are physically prepared for it.
A recent study shows girls in Pakistan marry at a younger age than boys. It says about 21 percent of all marriages involve(包含,牵涉) a person under the age of 18. It says it is very poor in the countryside in Pakistan and the people like sons because they think sons can make more money but the girls can’t. They must give a lot of money to girls when they get married. So they let their daughters get married early.
“Often the girl, or called the mother, dies during child birth because they are too young to have babies. They are only 13 or 14 years old and can’t deal with(应对) the family system. ”
