An old man had a bird, he liked the bird very much. One day the bird flew away. The old man became very sad. At last he found the bird and talked a lot at the bird’s home. When it was time for the old man to leave, the bird gave him a basket as a present.

The old man's wife was angry when he came home, but when she opened the basket, she could not close her mouth—a basket of gold. The old woman wanted another basket of gold, so she went to the bird's home. Unlike the old man, the woman was very bad to the bird when the bird was in her home. "Hello, bird, how are you? I missed you," cried the old woman. The bird said nothing. Then she asked for a present. "Alright," answered the bird, "There are two baskets. One is light and the other is heavy. You can only take one and open it when you get home!"

The greedy old woman laughed, “I’ll take the heavy one." When she got home and opened the basket, there was nothing but stones.
