雪豹危机

The World Wildlife Fund (世界野生动物基金会) has warned that climate change is threatening the life of the snow leopard(雪豹) in the Himalayas(喜马拉雅山). It says rising temperatures cause the natural living places of the big cat to the point that snow leopards could die out. In a new report, it says that up to a third of the areas on the mountain where the leopards live could become uninhabitable. Much of the plants and food the animals need could disappear in warmer temperatures. The WWF said: "The Himalayas area will face a danger if we choose not to care about climate change…We will lose the snow leopard."

It isn't just climate change that is making a serious threat to the future of the snow leopard. Many activities from humans is also adding to the dangers the animals face. Snow leopards are highly needed for their fur and body parts. People are killing the animals for money. The leopards are also being killed by farmers who are trying to protect their animals. As the natural food of the snow leopards is decreasing, the animals are going into human areas killing farm animals. The result is the farmers shoot the leopards. The WWF reported this result on Friday, which was the first International Snow Leopard Day.
