Huo Liang gets about 1,000 yuan ($158) a month by running an online shop since this spring. The money is much for a family in Tongyu county(县), in Northeast China’s Jilin. In the county, nearly a third of farm products is sold online. Tongyu is part of an e-commerce(电子商务) development plan in more than 200 counties across the country. The government plans to spend up to 140 billion yuan by 2020 to provide at least 50,000 villages with Internet. By then, about 98 percent of the countryside will be with Internet. By the end of last year, China still had 70.17 million people in the countryside living below the poverty line(贫困线) of 2,300 yuan each year. Many local governments, such as Shandong and Gansu, have announced policies to help e-commerce development.

Farming in China grows quickly during the past thirty years. This summer,it reached a record 141.07 million tons this year after 11 years of growth. Although harvests were good, poor ways to sell, decreasing labor population and lack of enough money have been big problems to farmers. The Internet has provided farmers with a new world. E-commerce makes farmers sell products quickly. By the end of June, China had 668 million Internet users, 48.8 percent of the population.
