The world’s longest and highest glass bridge was completed in Zhangjiajie, Hunan on Thursday. The 430-meter long, 6-meter wide bridge is also the world’s longest open space bridge, and is said to be the world’s highest Bungee(蹦极) place. The bridge will be open to the public on May 1, 2016. Chen Zhidong, from Zhangjiajie Scenic Area Management Co. (张家界风景区管理公司), explained that the bridge has undergone nearly 100 safety tests to make sure it can support the weight of 800 people. Chen also said the glass had passed wind and temperature resistance tests.

There has been another all-glass bridge that suspends 180 meters above the ground in Zhangjiajie. After it was open to the public in September this year, it was so popular that the number of visitors was controlled to 10,000 a day because of safety concerns.

The idea to build the glass bridge was from the movie Avatar(《阿凡达》). Members of the production team spent long time among the mountains taking notes and sketches.
