中国需要更多的一流大学

China aims to establish a group ofworld-class universities by 2020. What’s your opinion about the world -classuniversities?

I think there is no doubt that China shouldestablish world-class universities. Firstly, China needs a lot of good teachersin the universities. Secondly, we should keep pace with the time. Only byestablishing world-class universities can we develop our countries. Thirdly, thestudents should study harder than before.

Thedeveloped world has a lot of education on offer. In Germany, for example, there areVolkshochschulen, i.e. people's colleges, where anyone can go to the collegesand study anything. At present, such Volkshochschulen teach German to thousandsof foreign students. Except that, they teach cooking, philosophy for beginners,auto mechanics for the housewives with their own fleet of cars, and foreign languages.

In myopinion, China already hassome world-class universities in the world like Peking University.I believe there will be more and more world-class universities in the future.

Future universities must be in step with thetimes. Nothing can be achieved if there is a lack of money. So it will need topclass dollars to set the ball rolling and get as many top class teachers andacademics as possible, locally and from abroad.
