世界奇观之穿越高楼的轻轨

It’s not only amazing but also very special that a light railway track has been built to go through a hole in a residential(住宅的) 19-storey building in China.

The city of Chongqing in the southwest of China has a population of 49 million packed into 31,000 square miles, causing city planners to look creatively at solving space issues. A special railway station was built into the block of houses, set into the sixth to eighth floors.

People can take Chongqing Rail Transit No.2 at their own Liziba station. Even though they are living close to a busy train station, most of the noise has been muffled by special equipment. To homeowners in the buildings, the sound of the train is designed to be as low as the noise from a dishwasher.

By doing this, planners didn’t have to take the whole building down to make way for the train tracks. A city transport spokesman said, “Our city is very heavily built upon and it is a real challenge to make room for roads and railway lines.” Chongqing is one of the four municipalities(直辖市) in China and lies along the banks of the Yangtze River. Even though it is a densely populated area, it is called the Mountain City because it lies around forest and hills.
