New York's MTA(交通运输管理局) will remove seats from some subways to let more people inside. The MTA will first remove seats from the S and L subway lines. The subway is overcrowding. It causes subway delays. Remove seats can make subways leave stations on time.  
Removing seats is a part of the MTA's short-term plan to deal with the overcrowding of subways. The MTA was asking the government to pay $836 million for subways. The MTA raised short-term solutions like increasing the length of subways, cleaning stations, and adding subway workers, NBC New York reported.
