Diaosi (屌丝) is a word that has long been popular among Chinese. Diaosi are usually the ones who haven’t succeeded in life and who don’t have a rich life. But it seems like a strange and vague（模糊的）word to understand. recently a Beijing University has made a survey to describe it clearly.
The most important factor of diaosi is their salary. On average, a diaosi makes a salary of 2,917 RMB every month, much less than the Beijing average（平均）of 5,793 RMB. They have under 100,000 RMB in savings, and with such little money, it is clear they do not have a home of their own, and 60% say they aren’t able to get overtime pay.
Half of all diaosi spend less than 500 RMB every month on rent. They usually pay 39 RMB a day for three meals, while 7.8 % pay 10 RMB for all three meals. Half of them spend less than 500 RMB a month on vacations, and most spend all their time at home.
While 70 % of diaosi live far away from their hometowns, they give their family 1,076 RMB a month on average. With half of them single（单身）, the diaosi are usually between 21 and 30 and don’t have higher education.
