流行新风尚:Prada用海洋垃圾做包

Making an effort to invest in sustainable(可持续的) alternative, Prada will be replacing its original nylon with recyclable Econyl. The Italian brand has turned plastics and fishing nets collected from the ocean into a series of brand new designer bags.

So far, Prada has applied this unique material to six of its bags, which are suitable for both men and women, including a belt bag, a shoulder bag, a handbag, a luggage bag and two Prada backpacks. Focusing on Prada’s classical triangular logo, I find myself attracted to the handbag which you can get for $1,550 and the luggage bag whose price is $1,790.

With the future of fashion leaning towards investing in sustainable alternatives, Prada is using Econyl, a material developed by Aquafil. The producer has come up with a way to mix waste pulled from the ocean with textile waste, recycling harmful pollutants into useful materials. Aquafil hold the view that the process it uses to make Econyl means the material can be recycled for many times, with no loss of quality.

Lastly, it is no secret that fashion is one of the planet’s biggest polluters, so I praise Prada for taking a meaningful step to reduce its negative impact on the environment. I also like the fact that in an effort to close the loop, Prada and Econyl are encouraging users to return the product so they can turn it into a totally new product.
