Some people view physical disabilities as an impossible challenge, while others see them as an opportunity. Sixteen-year-old Hansel Enmanuel is one of the latter! The young Dominican Republic native is now an internationally recognized high school basketball player. Unlike most of people of his age, Hansel has just one arm.
Growing up in Santo Domingo, he tragically lost his arm after becoming trapped under a fallen wall at the age of 6. After two long hours, he was finally rescued, but he lost one of his arms forever. According to Yahoo Sports, Hansel chose not to see the accident as a tragic loss but rather as a life lesson. He changed his new reality into a rare gift, and his determination and talent have paid off!
His wonderful sports talent brought him all the way to the U.S., where he scored a scholarship to play basketball for Life Christian Academy in Kissimmee, Florida. There, his talent continued to gain attention. With the help of social media, videos of Hansel’s game play began spreading the Internet, eventually going viral and increasing his Instagram community to over 265,000 followers.
Every day, Hansel proves that he doesn’t need to convince anyone to view him accurately. After all, his talent speaks for itself! Despite all the recognition he’s received, Hansel remains true to his final goals: to be the best athlete he can be and to make his family proud! He even insists that he can’t take credit for his success. As he wrote on Instagram, “To be successful, it only takes two things, the favor and grace of God.”
