A heatwave (热浪) hit the western part of North America. Hot air went from California, US, to the Arctic. It moved very slowly.
Temperatures were almost 50 ºC in Canada’s British Columbia. More than 230 people died in the last four days. People must stay out of the sun and drink a lot of water.
People bought air conditioners (空调). Air conditioners kept the air in people’s homes cool. Farmers grew plants in North American prairies (大草原). The hot air killed the plants. Schools also closed.
The situation was bad. The weather was extreme. Scientists said that it would happen more often in the future.
