Yiwu is the world’s largest wholesale (批发) market for small products in East China’s Zhejiang Province. It is seeing another sudden rise in orders for sporting goods as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is drawing near.
Ye Demo of Yiwu-based Jinzun Trophy (奖杯) told the Global Times on Tuesday that the orders of trophies started to increase from February this year, and now the orders have reached 400,000. “Our best sellers are different kinds of trophies and medals ordered from Europe, and sales are rising 20 percent year-on-year,” Ye said, adding that French buyers are the biggest client at the present time, followed by the UK and Netherlands. He noted that the delivery(交货) date has been made to last longer to June and that his company can produce enough products to satisfy the rising demand.
What’s more, local suppliers have also quickly done something to meet different needs of the market. Guo Huiping, a foreign trade goods supplier said glow sticks (荧光棒) in red, white and blue, the colors of the French national flag, were a hit in the market. “The new glow stick has the longest duration time for nearly 10 hours, and we have received orders for about 100 boxes of the products,” Guo said.
Data from Yiwu customs (海关) showed that the city’s exports to France stood at 540 million yuan from January to February this year(2024), increasing by 42.1 percent year-on-year. Yiwu’s exports of sporting goods reached 1,700 million yuan, increased by 70 percent year-on-year.
Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will begin on July 26, 2024, and come to an end on August 11. Some of the games will start from July 24.
