世上真有超能力?能抵御极寒的“冰人”维姆·霍夫

Born on 20 April 1959, the Iceman Wim Hof first began experimenting with the extreme cold in 1976. He would sit outside in the snow for hours and would often sleep outdoors during the winter without a tent or a sleeping bag. Hof found that not only could he control his body temperature, but he could actually stay warm in very cold weather.

Knowing this, Hof has done some phenomenal things, including holding himself in ice water for nearly two hours, climbing Mount Qomolangma without a shirt on, and running a half marathon through the Namib Desert in Southern Africa without a drink of water.

Over the years, Hof has earned 18 Guinness World Records titles because of his unusual ability to control his body and mind under extreme conditions. Hof has broken the record for the longest duration (持续时间) full body contact with ice for 15 times over the years. His best effort came in 2013 when he lasted 1 hour 53 minutes 2 seconds. But today, that record is held by Valerjan Romanovski (Poland) with a time of 3 hours 28 seconds.

Hof has used his website and world records to raise an understanding of the importance of cold therapy (疗法) and its physical and mental health benefits. Hof’s teachings about breathwork and the benefits of cold swims have attracted millions of followers worldwide. His story has encouraged people around the world to push their limits (极限) and achieve things they never thought were possible.
