Long ago in China, there was a man named Qu Yuan. He was a great poet (诗人). At the same time, he worked for his country Chu State and he loved his country very much. Even though he was old, he tried his best to help his country. But he faced many difficulties. At last, his country was ended by Qin State. He was so sad that he jumped into the Milo River and killed himself.
People loved Qu Yuan and tried to get his body out of water, but they did not succeed. So they threw (扔) rice balls into the river, so fish would not eat his body. From then on, every year on the day, people remembered him by having loong boat races and eating zongzi. It’s called Loong Boat Festival.
