In Brevard County, a wonderful action is taking place, bringing joy and connection to thousands of people through the simple act of painting rocks.
This action began as a small gesture of kindness between two friends but has since grown into an online community with over 40,000 members. Jen Justiniano began painting rocks to deal with her worries after a hurricane (飓风) and shared creations on the Internet. Her friend Carrie Cerve also shared positive messages on the Internet, to encourage others. When Cerve discovered Justiniano’s rock posts, she was inspired. Together, they created a private Facebook group called Brevard Rocks FL. What they thought would be a small gathering quickly became popular. The group now has 41,500 members, with more joining every day.
Members paint rocks with messages like “Be kind,” “Spread kindness,” and “Love,” then hide them around the community. Those who find the rocks often feel greateful, leading them to join the group and share their stories.
One such person is Coleen Carlson from Viera. During a difficult time in her life, she found a pink-painted rock with the word “Warrior” outside a shop. The message resonated deeply with her and made her cry. She kept the rock for several years until a friend going through a hard time needed it too. Carlson gave her the rock, and they both cried together. Even though she doesn’t know where the rock ended up or if it was passed on again, she knows that whoever painted it had no idea how special it would become.
