On the evening of August 30th, Dao Lang’s online concert became popular on Weibo. Wearing a simple T-shirt and with little chatting, Dao Lang performed some of his classic songs like “Impulsive Punishment,” “Lover,” “Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing,” and “Luocha Haishi”. Fans showered Dao Lang with virtual (虚拟的) gifts throughout the concert, making it a very popular online event. The online concert lasted from 8:00 pm to about 11:30 pm. More than 52 million people watched it, and it received over 600 million likes. It was reported that the money given by the audience during this online concert would be given to charity (慈善机构).
Dao Lang was born in 1971 in Neijiang, Southwest China’s Sichuan Province. However, his favorite place to live is Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, which covers some of the Gobi Desert. He loved it so much that he started his music career (生涯) there.
In the early winter of 2002, the first snowfall in Urumqi, Xinjiang gave Dao Lang the idea for a song. Later, in 2004, he wrote his hit song “The First Snowfall in 2002.” Its album (音乐专辑) sales reached 2.7 million, making it the best-selling Chinese song album at that time, and Dao Lang became famous all over China. Although he was very popular among ordinary people, especially workers and farmers, some famous singers said his songs had “no music value.” Dao Lang didn’t reply and stopped singing in 2013. Since then, he hasn’t been in public or at any events. It was not until July 2023 that Dao Lang posted his new song. Without much promotion (广告宣传), it became very popular on many Chinese music platforms right away.
