中国千年瓷都:江西景德镇

Jingdezhen is located in the northeast of Jiangxi province. Ceramic is the foundation and core of Jingdezhen. Since the 10th century AD, China has spread porcelain making skills and industrial civilization to Korea, Japan, and Europe. For westerners, Jingdezhen becomes an important window of understanding and learning Chinese culture.

During the Yuan Dynasty, Kublai Khan established Fuliang Ceramic Bureau before he became an emperor. During the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang set up Imperial Kiln (窑) in the second year of Hongwu reign. Until now, Imperial Kiln has a long history of more than 630 years. During its long history, Jingdezhen has absorbed widely from other famous kilns’ successful experience across the country. The produced porcelains have gradually formed the distinctive feature of “as white as jade, as bright as a mirror, as thin as a piece of paper, as songful as a musical instrument”.

Many ceramic masters and professional talents gather in Jingdezhen. It has a large number of experts with special government allowance of the State Council and Jiangxi province, national level masters of arts and crafts, ceramic arts and crafts professors, provincial and municipal (市政的) senior industrial artists and folk ceramic artists, and people working in the ceramic industry. Every year, thousands of domestic and overseas ceramists are attracted here to create and exchange, which forms a large and abundant ceramic team.

With a profound culture and rich ecological resources, Jingdezhen highlights its regional features to vigorously develop the tourism industry led by ceramic culture. Currently, Jingdezhen has 18 national A-level scenic spots. Strange Stone Forest in Leping has successfully become a 4A scenic spot, Yaoli town is selected as “China Top Ten Most Beautiful and Nostalgia Travel Destination Town”, and Liyang town is selected as “Jiangxi Top Ten Cultural Ancient Town”.
