What to do during a typhoon? Here are some important steps.
Listen to local news
Check your local news or radio station for weather information and official advice. If you are advised to move out, take your emergency bag and ID papers and do so right away. If you have not been advised to evacuate, stay calm, stay indoors and away from windows.
Protect your home
If asked to leave and you are able to do so safely, turn off electricity, gas and water before leaving.
Comfort your children
Go over your emergency plan with your children and let them know your family is ready and prepared. Explain typhoons to them in a way that works for them and encourage them to ask any questions. Let them know that they are safe and you are there to support them.
Contact your loved ones
As soon as you are somewhere safe and communication is available, make sure to tell your other family members or those close to you.
