An unusual lightning caused a fire. The fire destroyed a 79-year-old woman’s home. The shocking moment was caught on cameras. Heavy rain quickly followed. It poured through the house, making it impossible to live in. She was left homeless. The homeowner said: “I don’t know what I am going to do. I can’t pay for this.”
Hayley Johnson is a local neighbor. He saw the situation and said the woman was in complete shock. He decided to do something for her. He set up an online fundraiser (募集资金的活动). As word spread, local businessmen came together to support the woman in her time of need.
Roofer Ian Inskip was one of the first to offer his help. He gave free materials and led a team of volunteers to support. “The elderly woman told me she didn’t have much money, and that was it — I just wanted to help,” Inskip said. “I’ve always had a soft spot for old people, and if it was my mum, I’d want it all fixed.”
But the kindness didn’t stop there. More people joined the effort, working for free. Others donated everything needed to repair the house. And kind-hearted local families donated over £4,500 to further help.
Johnson, who organized the fundraiser, said: “It’s been incredible — I cannot believe the work that has already been done. It’s been a large crowd of people wanting to help — and being so fast to help!”
Thanks to the efforts of this caring community, the elderly woman’s home is well on its way to being repaired.
