
Frost’s Descent (霜降) is the 18th of the 24 solar terms. It is the last solar term of autumn. During this period, the weather becomes much colder than before. Frost begins to show up and that is why it gets its name. Despite that, there are plenty of delicious food to enjoy.
Firstly, persimmons (柿子) are a popular choice. They can help people stay warm and protect their bones. Secondly, apples are highly recommended. In China, it’s believed that “Eat an apple after meals, even old men can be as strong as young men.” Thirdly, pears are great for clearing away heat from the body. Fourthly, duck meat is a traditional food in Taiwan province and Fujian province. It is a way for people there to gain weight during the colder months. Fifthly, chestnuts (栗子) are another excellent option. Chestnuts are warm and sweet. They are good for the stomach and the blood. Lastly, dates (红枣) are also good for health. But eating too much can be harmful.
