Ding Junhui was born in 1987 in Jiangsu. He is a Chinese snooker player. On 10th November, 2024, in the final of the International Championship, he beat Chris Wakelin, winning his first ranking title in five years. The crowd cheered as Ding came from behind to win 10-7. His family were among them. “I didn’t know my family were going to be there, it was great to see them,” Ding said. “My kids hadn’t seen me win anything live before.”

Ding is the most successful Asian player in the history of the sport and widely considered as one of the greatest players of all time. Throughout his career, he has won 15 major ranking titles.

Ding began playing snooker at age nine. He became internationally famous in 2002 after winning the Asian Under-21 Championship and the Asian Championship. At age 15, he became the youngest winner of the IBSF World Under-21 Championship. In 2003, Ding turned professional at the age of 16. During his career, he has made more than 600 century breaks (单杆过百). He is the only Asian player to be ranked world number one, which he first achieved in 2014 to become the 11th player to reach the top spot.
