毛绒文创席卷全国:成年人的“治愈神器”

China’s cities and museums are making their own special soft toys, called cultural plush products (毛绒文创). These toys are now very popular.

At the 13th Suzhou Creative and Design Cultural Industry Expo in Jiangsu Province, a new market for museum plush toys was introduced. It was the first one ever and many people came to buy the toys. Liu Xiaoping from the Suzhou Museum said, “An hour before we opened, people were already waiting in line for the ‘crab’ (螃蟹) plush toys. They sold out in just 10 minutes.” The market had about 20,000 plush toys from 11 different museums. In three days, these toys made 663,000 yuan in sales.
Even before this trend, people liked plush cultural products. In June 2022, a creative toy inspired by a famous bronze (青铜) sculpture at the Gansu Provincial Museum became very popular on the Internet. During the 2023 Spring Festival, the Suzhou Museum introduced a soft copy of Fuchai’s bronze sword (剑). This toy became popular online and has sold nearly 60,000 units so far.
This year, cultural plush products have become more varied. After the spicy hotpot dish Malatang from Tianshui, Gansu Province, became famous, the Gansu Provincial Museum made different plush toys based on it. They quickly caused a sensation. The museum’s pre-sales attracted nearly 200,000 customers in a week.
Plush toys are helping the cultural and creative industry grow. Many places are making unique regional plush toys that attract younger consumers. These toys also make people feel good emotionally. People say they find comfort and happiness from these cute and soft toys.
To keep this trend going, Xu Zhe from the Suzhou Museum says it’s important to create interesting content and high-quality products.
