When planning a holiday, ask: “What do I need from this holiday?” but not “Where do I want to go?” Think back to your favorite trips — why do you love them? Maybe you want to go to Paris, but maybe Beijing is better for you.
When you are in a place, try its food. It’s a great way to learn about the culture and history. Look out for its special ingredients; visit markets, food festivals and farms; consider a cooking class.
Be a slow tourist. Spending more time in a place to get to know the people and their life. Instead of a city-only break, try to spend time in the countryside, too.
