城市突发空气危机 三千万市民如何应对

Over 33 million people in New Delhi face a big problem. The city is filled with smog, a thick and harmful fog caused by air pollution. In some areas, the air is more than 50 times dirtier than what the World Health Organization says is safe. India’s government called this situation “very bad.”

To keep people safe, schools close and most lessons go online. Building work stops, and trucks that are not needed are kept out of the city. People are told to stay inside, especially kids, older adults, and those with long-term health issues, because smog is very dangerous for them.
Air pollution is a major issue in northern India, where New Delhi is located. A lot of this pollution comes from farmers burning their fields before planting new crops. This creates smoke that blows into cities.
People living there are unhappy about the air quality. Sanjay Goel, a resident of New Delhi, says that everyone has a sore throat because of the bad air.
