Today, many people use artificial intelligence, or AI. Whether is AI good for society? We asked students from our school to tell us if they think AI is good for society. Here are some opinions about it. Where do you stand?
I think AI helps in many areas, like education. Some people worry that students might use AI to get answers without working hard. But AI can help students solve problems step by step, which is a good way to learn. — Rime Lee, 10
AI might cause problems. It can be hard to know what’s real and what’s fake with AI. Students might cheat on their homework, which is not good because teachers won’t know if students are having trouble. Also, students might stop thinking for themselves and rely too much on AI. — Maren Altrup, 10
Sometimes you have a question and your parents don’t know the answer. You can ask AI. I know students can use it to cheat on tests or homework. But many schools can block those websites so students can’t cheat. What’s the chance of AI taking over the world? — Thomas McGibbon, 9
When I was bored, I used AI sites to make images of book characters. I used descriptions from the books for these requests. AI made the images using different artists’ work and styles. It takes artists’ hard work without permission. It’s fun to see AI-generated book characters, but it’s not okay for AI to steal artists’ work. — Ellie McBee, 12
