Drinking baijiu has a long history in China. If you are visiting China, it’s better to learn about it.
First, the host starts. They start with a welcome toast (敬酒). After that, you can toast people around you.
Second, when you toast, say something nice. If you toast someone older, lower (放低) your glass a bit.
Third, if you are late, drink three glasses of baijiu to catch up.
Last, if you can’t drink baijiu, try beer, tea or juice. It is the most important thing to remember.
