Imagine eating at a fancy restaurant and then sneezing uncontrollably. How embarrassing! Is this a medical condition? Or is it just your body playing a cruel trick on you? This is a common experience for many people. Sneezing is the body’s way of removing irritants (刺激物) or allergens to keep the nasal passages (鼻腔通道) clear. If you can identify the irritant in your case, it’s possible to get rid of the sneezing completely.
Gustatory rhinitis is characterized by nasal congestion (鼻塞), sneezing, and a runny nose after meals. Certain foods like spicy foods, alcohol, or even cold foods can cause a reaction in the nervous system that results in symptoms. However, if your symptoms include skin abnormalities, abdominal (腹部的) pain, or shortness of breath, see your doctor immediately.
Snatiation is a condition where people have excessive sneezing after consuming a large meal. This condition is thought to have a genetic component. People with this trait may sneeze uncontrollably when their brains register that their bellies are full. There are between 3-15 uncontrolled sneezes directly after the stomach is full, regardless of the type of food taken. If so, change your eating habits. Eat frequent, smaller meals rather than three large meals.
Some individuals may have allergies to specific substances, such as food allergies, where certain individuals sneeze after consuming specific foods. Common allergy-inducing foods include peanuts, wheat, seafood, eggs, and milk. If you suspect you have food allergies, keep a food diary to record exactly what food types initiate the problem. It may not only be the type of food but also the method of preparation that can lead to your body’s reaction. Once a particular food has been identified as the cause, avoid that allergen. You may have to make careful observations to discount all possibilities and find out your exact cause.
