China will introduce more special tourist trains for older travelers to boost travel services. These trains will avoid busy periods like the Spring Festival to make travel easier for seniors. Since older people often have flexible schedules, these trains will travel off-season (淡季). “This plan helps improve services for seniors while welcoming all ages,” said official Kong Dejun.
The trains will have customizable routes and often run at night. Railway official Zhu Wenzhong shared upgrades for senior comfort: trains will get better seats, bigger restrooms, safety handles, oxygen tanks, first-aid kits, and help buttons.
By 2027, China aims to create over 100 scenic railway routes for seniors, with more than 2,500 special trains running yearly.
Public interest has grown since China announced plans to upgrade these trains, with more people searching for senior-friendly travel choices.
