英歌舞:翩跹雄姿,舞动百年

Yingge Dance, also called “Hero’s Song”, is a 300-year-old folk art from Guangdong’s Chaoshan region. Inspired by the 108 heroes in Outlaws of the Marsh (《水浒传》), dancers wear colorful costumes and makeup to act out stories of bravery. They leap high, spin quickly, and beat drums with sticks, creating powerful rhythms that sound like ancient battle cries.

During festivals like the Spring Festival, streets come alive with Yingge performances. Dancers hold props (道具) that look like snakes and spears, showing off acrobatic (杂技的) moves. In 2024, a short video of Chaoshan teenagers performing Yingge on the street became a huge hit online. It was watched nearly 200 million times, proving this old art can still excite young people!
Why is Yingge so special? It mixes martial arts, opera, and dance into one amazing show. People believe it brings good luck, so families cheer loudly when they see the dancers’ energetic moves. By blending tradition with modern energy, Yingge Dance keeps China’s cultural spirit alive.
