国产大型水陆两栖大飞机AG600下线交付试飞

China has recently made exciting progress in aviation with its new AG600 “Kunlong”, the world’s largest amphibious aircraft. Developed entirely by Chinese engineers, this plane can take off and land on both land and water, making it a powerful tool for emergencies like forest fires, floods, and rescue missions.
The AG600 earned its official approval from China’s aviation authority after passing strict safety tests. This certification means the plane is ready to serve the public. Six AG600s have been ordered, with the first delivery expected soon.
The AG600 is as big as a Boeing 737. It can carry 12 tons of water in just 20 seconds to fight fires. For rescue missions, it can save up to 50 people at sea. The plane can fly up to 4,500 kilometers without refueling, reaching remote areas quickly.
Development of the AG600 began in 2009, involving over 300 Chinese research centers, companies, and schools. After its first flight in 2017, the AG600 completed tests in different environments — from airports in Guangdong to lakes in Hubei and even the Yellow Sea. Engineers also tested it in strong winds in Inner Mongolia to ensure safety in tough conditions.
The AG600 is China’s second amphibious aircraft, following the SH-5 from the 1970s. It joins two other homegrown planes — the Y-20 transport and C919 passenger jet — marking China’s progress in aviation technology.
Besides firefighting and rescue work, the AG600 will help with weather research and forest protection. Engineers are now improving its systems to handle more tasks. With its success, the AG600 shows China’s ability to solve real-world challenges through innovation.
