André and Édouard Michelin were brothers. They were French. They had a tire(轮胎) company. In 1891, the brothers wanted to sell more tires. They had an idea. They wrote a guide for drivers.
The guide could tell drivers about gas stations(加油站) and restaurants. The brothers thought that more people would drive. Then, they would sell more tires. The idea worked, but not as well as they thought. So in 1926, they started to give stars to the best restaurants.
Today, the best restaurants get three stars. Thousands of restaurants have at least one Michelin star. Michelin are interested in five things when they give restaurants stars: the quality(质量) of food, special ways of cooking, the price, the taste and the personality(性格) of the chef(厨师).
