Last spring, I took a road trip with friends in China. Our first stop was Qinghai Lake. Though it was late March, the cold was stronger than we thought. At night, the temperature dropped to -10°C! We planned to camp with tents and sleeping bags, but the freezing air made us run back to the cars. We turned on the heaters and stayed warm there. Camping? Not this time!
From Qinghai Lake, we drove to Lanzhou. The city’s food markets were full of life. We tried many kinds of noodles. As college students, we stayed in a gaming hotel — a new experience for me! Instead of going to parties, we played games in the room until morning. It was so much fun!
The best part was the journey itself. Driving through Northwest China, we saw beautiful mountains and deserts. People we met were kind. At gas stations, shopkeepers smiled and told us where to go. By the roadside, we bought skewers and mangoes from friendly sellers. Their warmth made the trip special.
I’m an American living in China. Though Chinese and Americans are different, we share love for road trips. Whether in America’s hills or China’s deserts, the joy of traveling freely and being with friends is the same. It’s a memory I’ll always keep!
