In China, an old photo-taking method called “peel-apart film” is becoming popular, even though it’s expensive. This method lets people create photos by pulling the film out, waiting, and peeling it apart. Many young people love the hands-on process and nostalgic (怀旧的) feeling.
Years ago, companies stopped making peel-apart film cameras and materials. In the past, a pack of 10 sheets cost about 70 yuan. As time passed, fewer films were left, so the price rose to 200 yuan per pack by 2018. By 2025, the price jumped to 1,600-3,000 yuan per box. That’s 20 times higher than the price in the past!
Famous stars also helped make it popular. When a star shared his/her peel-apart photos online, fans copied the style. Then, more and more stars took “peel-apart” photos. They share them on China’s social media platforms. This special photography style has quickly become a new favorite.
Some people enjoy the fun of creating photos this way, while others just follow trends. One thing is clear: old things often become new again. Who knows what the next retro (复古的) trend will be?
