
A group called UNESCO just gave a special science prize to five women. One winner is Wang Xiaoyun, a scientist from China.
Wang Xiaoyun was born in 1966 in Shandong, China. As a child, she loved math while other kids played. Math puzzles were like fun games to her. She was always top in math at school.
In 1983, she went to Shandong University to study math. She worked very hard and became one of the best students there.
In 1988, she made a big change. She started learning about cryptography (密码学). Not many people studied this in China then, but she thought it was very important for keeping information safe.
She got her master’s degree in 1990 and then her PhD. After that, she became a teacher at the university. She taught students and kept researching cryptography.
She worked day and night in her lab. She finally broke many difficult codes (密码). This made her famous in the science world.
Now, she has won this important UNESCO award for her great work.
