全运“大湾鸡”引爆全网!

Xi Yangyang and Le Rongrong, the mascots of the 15th National Games, have become big stars because of their lively performances. Inspired by Chinese white dolphins, these cute characters are stealing the show at venues across the three host regions of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Designed by Liu Pingyun, who also created Bing Dwen Dwen for the Beijing Winter Olympics, the mascots have a special body proportion. Unlike Bing Dwen Dwen’s round body with no waist, they are two heads tall, allowing smoother and more dynamic (充满活力的) movements. This design lets performers inside move freely and show more athletic (运动的) skills.

At venues like Dongguan Basketball Center, the mascots dance to hip-hop music during timeouts. They do breakdancing, rapid tail spins and headstands, making the crowd cheer loudly. Their funny videos have gone viral online, with many calling them the most energetic mascots ever. The performers behind them are 23 students from a martial arts (武术) school, whose training helps them handle the physical demands.

Chinese white dolphins, the “giant pandas of the sea”, live in the Pearl River Estuary and turn pink when active — an inspiration for the mascots’ colors. People call them “great bay chickens” due to their appearance and the lucky Cantonese pronunciation, making them even more beloved. These mascots connect sports, culture and fun, adding joy to the National Games.
