埃菲尔铁塔又“长个了” !

The Eiffel Tower grew by six meters (nearly 20 feet) on March 15 after engineers hoisted(吊起) a new communications antenna(天线) at the very top of France’s most iconic landmark, which is easily noticed far away and can help you to know where you are. The tower, built by Gustave Eiffel in the late 19th century, now is 330 metres high after the antenna was put onto its top by a helicopter.
Live television pictures showed how the antenna was put onto its base on the top of the tower, where workmen made it secure. The whole process lasted less than 10 minutes.
The Eiffel Tower was 312 meters (1,024 feet) high when it was finished on March 31, 1889. It went beyond the Washington Monument to become the tallest man-made building in the world, a title it held for forty years until the Chrysler Building in New York City was topped off in 1929.
In the beginning , the tower was built as a centerpiece(中心建筑) for the World Fair of 1889. Today it is the very symbol of Paris. The tower is among the most visited tourist sites in the world, according to TripAdvisor. It has, however, also been used for broadcast transmissions(广播传输) for more than 100 years, with the height of its highest point changing many times as new antennas were used.
