Have you ever seen porcelain that has carved hollows (镂空雕刻) and clay flowers? This special kind of porcelain is called Tonghua porcelain (通花瓷). It is from Chaohou city, Guangdong province. In 2008, it was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage (“非物质文化遗产”).

 During a winter holiday, while Ye was practicing clay flower shaping, his grandfather came and laughed at the cracks in the flowers he made. “My grandpa told me that I didn’t have the feel for clay. He also designed six Tonghua porcelain vases that include main characters from a popular show. He successfully improved Tonghua skills by mixing traditional art and pop culture.
