OpenAI introduced its newest AI model, called GPT-5.2, on Thursday. The AI company said it is the “most powerful” model yet for professional work. “We designed GPT-5.2 to unlock even more economic value for people; it’s better at creating tables, building presentations, writing code, processing images, understanding long texts, using tools, and handling complex projects,” OpenAI said in a blog post Thursday.
The new model was rolled out starting with paid plans and for developers.
OpenAI mentioned how GPT-5.2 set a record for certain tests, including one for knowledge work tasks called GDPval. “Overall, GPT-5.2 brings significant improvements in general intelligence, long-context understanding, tool use, and vision—making it better at handling difficult, real-world tasks end-to-end than any earlier model,” OpenAI added.
On Monday, OpenAI shared the progress the company has made with business customers. It said OpenAI has more than one million businesses that use its AI tools and that it now serves more than seven million ChatGPT workplace accounts. According to an OpenAI survey of 9,000 workers, people who use AI are saving an average of 40 to 60 minutes a day, the company said.
Some experts have said OpenAI models’ abilities have fallen behind the latest series of models from Google Gemini and Anthropic Claude. GPT-5.2 is a step in the right direction.
