小小调解员,传递大友善

Patrick Finnegan is a 12-year-old schoolboy. He is a “peer mediator” at school. That means he helps other students solve problems.

What is a peer mediator? A peer mediator helps solve fights between two or more students. They let both sides talk freely and try hard to make everyone feel happy with the result. Patrick said he wanted to help students with their conflicts and make them friendlier to each other.

How did Patrick learn to do this? Patrick joined a three-day training program first. The training taught him how to solve conflicts and understand others’ true feelings. For Patrick, success means helping students stay good friends without hard feelings.

This job helps Patrick too. Being a peer mediator helps Patrick grow a lot. It makes him kind, patient and understanding. He also has advice for kids interested in this job: talk to your school counselor or principal, start a group with interested friends and find a teacher or trainer at school who can help you learn.
