奥运冠军武大靖,宣布退役!

Chinese short-track speed skating star Wu Dajing has announced his retirement. The 31-year-old, a two-time Winter Olympic gold medalist, stated that he wishes to leave quietly without a formal farewell ceremony.

Wu began skating at the age of 10 and joined the national team at 16. Throughout his amazing career, he won a total of 124 medals. He was especially dominant in the men’s 500-meter event, winning 16 World Cup titles in that race alone. His amazing speed also earned him both the world and Winter Olympic records in the event, making him a true legend in the sport.

His greatest Olympic moments came in Pyeongchang and Beijing. First, he won a solo gold medal at the Pyeongchang Winter Games in 2018. Then, four years later, he led the Chinese team to a thrilling victory in the mixed relay at the Beijing Winter Olympics, bringing great joy to fans across the country.

Even after the Beijing Winter Olympics, Wu’s passion for competition remained strong. He dreamed of skating at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics. To challenge himself, he bravely tried switching to long-track speed skating. The training was very different and extremely tough. “It was very tiring. I endured a lot,” he said honestly about this difficult period.

However, Wu did not qualify in the final national team selection races (选拔赛) . This result helped him make his decision to retire. Wu now sees this as a new beginning. He has already started his next chapter as a coach, where he will share his vast experience and inspire the next generation of Chinese skaters.
