Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences grew a new kind of Chinese rose. They held an online activity to name it. Many nice names were suggested at first.
Then a netizen (网民) from Shandong had a special idea. He said, “Let’s name it ‘Baohua Chinese Rose’ after my second maternal (母亲一方的) uncle Liu Baohua.” The academy thought it was a bit strange. But the netizen said, “It’s not strange. My uncle looks like a flower.”
His reply got lots of support from other netizens. Finally, the name won the vote. And this rose may be on sale as early as August 2026.
