A simple lunch became a life-saving moment in Virginia Beach. Quick-thinking people and a Navy rescue swimmer saved a woman’s life that day.
Jeremy Way was eating at Bubba’s restaurant when he heard a loud crash. A car had driven into the water. The air was very cold, but Way jumped into the water without hesitation (犹豫).
When Way reached the car, he found a woman trapped inside. She was too scared to open the door. Water filled the car quickly. Other people tried to break the car windows while Way kept encouraging her.
At last, the group got the woman out just before the car sank completely. Way used his rescue skills to swim her to safety. The woman and two helpers were taken to the hospital. No one was seriously hurt.
Way believes there was a deeper reason he happened to be there that day. “I came out to get some lunch,” he said. “I’m a rescue swimmer. I was here for a reason. ‘So others may live’ — it’s our motto (座右铭).”
