A 66-year-old hiker, Graham Garnett, got lost in Kahurangi National Park in New Zealand. He went hiking alone on December 30 but did not return home. Bad weather and thick clouds made him lose his way. After taking a wrong turn, he walked far from his planned route.
The police started a big search. They used helicopters, radar technology, and many searchers. The team looked for him on the ground, in rivers, and from the air. But after weeks of searching, they found nothing and had to stop.
Garnett did not give up. He was hurt, but he followed streams to keep moving. Finally, he reached Venus Hut, a small shelter in the park. Some people found him there alive on a Friday afternoon. He was taken to hospital and soon saw his family again.
The police called his survival an amazing story. They praised his strong resilience (适应力). His family thanked everyone who helped in the search.
