Penelope Jordan is a 10-year-old girl who loves helping people in need. She started a lemonade stand to raise money for Columbus House, a nonprofit (非营利的) group in New Haven, Connecticut. This group offers help to people who are homeless or have no food. So far, Penelope has raised more than $20,000.
Penelope got the idea when she saw people struggling on the street. She felt sorry for those without homes or enough food and really wanted to help. She decided to set up a lemonade stand because many people enjoy lemonade and it can raise money quickly.
She never works alone. Her four brothers and sisters, her parents, and her grandmother all give her a hand. They set up the stand outside their house and share information about it on Instagram and TikTok. Her grandma also makes fresh cookies, which she offers for free with the lemonade.
Penelope has big plans for the future. She wants to help more homeless shelters and make her project even bigger. She also hopes her lemonade will be sold in supermarkets one day.
Her advice for kids who want to help their community is simple: Nothing is too small. She never thought her small lemonade stand could become so successful. Everyone can make a difference with kindness.
