Nature is the perfect canvas for artist David Popa. He creates very special paintings on natural surfaces. He has made huge artworks on the sand in Norway, on lava in Iceland, and on rocks in Finland. These artworks are temporary. They will soon be washed away or covered by nature. This makes each artwork more valuable. People can only see the real paintings for a short time. Later, they can only enjoy them through photos and videos.
Recently, David Popa finished his new series called RENEWAL. It includes three portrait (肖像) paintings in the snowy land of Alberta, Canada. He worked with Travel Alberta and spent about two weeks enjoying the beauty of the province. He created his art on Abraham Lake and in Cline River Canyon.
The paintings are very big, about 23 to 41 meters long. They show faces with eyes closed, as if the people are taking a deep, fresh breath. Popa made these portraits by hand with charcoal (木炭). The works match well with the natural environment.
Creating art outdoors is not easy. Popa has to face cold weather and strong winds. But he never gives up. He wants to show the beautiful relationship between humans and nature. He thinks this trip and his works are truly amazing.
