书影交融,悦读京城——2026北京春季书市开幕

The 2026 Beijing Spring Book Fair opened on Saturday and will last for a whole month until May 17. Held before China’s national reading week (the fourth week of April), this annual event has become more colorful this year by expanding reading spaces and adding cinematic elements. It also coincides with the 16th Beijing International Film Festival, making the combination of “film and reading” the biggest highlight. Tens of thousands of readers, from students to the elderly, have visited the fair since its opening, showing great enthusiasm for reading and related activities.

At Chaoyang Park’s Wangfujing Bookstore exhibition area, visitors can see decorative film strips and a special slogan. The bookstore has worked with the film festival to create a unique “cinematic reading space” with historical photos and film images. Bai Guowei, its deputy general manager, said they show over 3,000 books, mainly about history and social sciences, including new books, bestsellers and novelizations of popular films and TV dramas.

Besides book displays, the bookstore also holds lectures and interactive activities about filmmaking, such as AI’s use in video production and basic cinematic language. Famous directors and writers are invited to share their experiences, making these activities more attractive. These activities help readers learn more about the stories behind films. Another highlight is China Bookstore’s exhibition, which shows famous Chinese literary works and their film posters, including rare ones like Teahouse, allowing visitors to feel the charm of literature and film at the same time.

This year’s book fair is held in four major venues across Beijing and has the largest number of physical bookstores participating. The four venues are Chaoyang Park in the east, Nanyuan Forest and Wetland Park in the south, Shougang Park in the west and Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park in the north. Nearly 2,000 bookstores join in with their own themed activities, such as author talks and reading salons. With over 70 special activities in communities, schools and other places, it aims to offer reading services to people all over the city and encourage more people to develop a good reading habit.
